Time To Ring In The New Year

Going back a little, my roomy and I made this lovely gingerbread house from scratch. I whipped up a batch of gingerbread while Steph cut out the stencils. We cut out our cookie shapes and cooked them, we even had enough left over for a few gingerbread men. A few days later we came back to the project and assembled it. I made some royal icing and we “glued” our house together and then adorned the decorations. I really enjoy cooking so it was a lot of fun for me. Steph bought so much candy that we could create a gingerbread house a month and be pros by the time next year rolled around.

I’ve been dog sitting for Matt Troxler since Christmas Eve. His girlfriend has a really cute 3 year old Lhasa Apso named Bailey. Bailey has been a real treat at the house. He’s very well behaved and has just enough energy to be fun without getting on your nerves. His one draw back is a severe fear of other dogs. I introduced him to my two girl dogs and even the little moody one, Tess, loved Bailey. He, however, was not so fond and spent the night running from them and getting as high on the couch as possible. One night, I was busy working on my laptop and Bailey kept barking and scratching at me for attention. I ignored him for a while and got up to go to the bathroom. When I came back, Bailey was laying on my laptop keyboard so that I was sure to get the point that I should be paying him attention instead of the laptop 🙂 He goes home with Matt today and I will surely miss him. It really was a pleasure dog sitting him.

I also had a really bad case of Strep throat over the holidays. It started the Thursday before Christmas and by the time Christmas Eve rolled around, I couldn’t talk and I had a fever. I don’t get sick very often and I can’t remember the last time I had a fever so it was a very new experience for me. I went to Patient First on Christmas Eve and got some antibiotics and started to feel better in a few days. I still have some discomfort swallowing but I think I pulled something coughing.

It is a new year and that means I have Paid Time Off (PTO) again. I have to get out of here and clear my head so I’m going to plan a trip somewhere warm and colorful where I can take a lot of pictures. I could really use a mental reset.
